Import Essentials for Suriname
Five things to know before you choose a car. Each links to the official Surinamese source.
Vehicle age
Under State Decree 2006 no. 100, used passenger cars older than 8 years and used buses older than 15 years may not be imported. The one-off 2017-car window closed on 30 April 2026.
Import declaration
We found no separate vehicle permit in the Ministry notice. Your clearing agent declares the car to customs with the invoice and export certificate.
Inspection
No official pre-shipment inspection was found. Ask your clearing agent whether any inspection applies to your vehicle.
Destination port: Paramaribo
We ship to Paramaribo by container. Freight is quoted per shipment, and two or three cars in one container lower the cost per car.
Customs clearance
A local clearing agent handles the customs declaration and taxes. Exceptions exist for returning emigrants’ household cars and collector vehicles over 25 years.
Used passenger cars older than eight years and used buses older than fifteen years may not be imported.

Buying a Japanese Car for Suriname: FAQs
How can I buy a Japanese car for Suriname?
Pick a car from our stock or ask us to find one at auction. We keep to the age rule, send a written quotation, then prepare the export certificate and invoice for your clearing agent. The car ships to Paramaribo by container.
How to buy from KTJAPANHow old can a used car be for Suriname?
The Ministry states that used passenger cars older than eight years and used buses older than fifteen years may not be imported. We shortlist only cars inside that limit and check the exact date with your clearing agent, because the notice does not spell out the boundary month.
Source: Ministry notice on vehicle importsWhich models suit Suriname?
Buyers ask us about the Toyota Aqua, Yaris, Suzuki Swift, Corolla Fielder and Honda Vezel. These are enquiry topics, not sales rankings. Every car still has to fit the age rule at import, so send your budget and we check what is available.
Toyota Aqua guideIs a pre-shipment inspection required?
We found no official pre-shipment inspection requirement for Suriname. Your clearing agent can confirm whether any inspection applies. We can arrange an independent inspection in Japan if you want one.
Do I need an import permit?
The Ministry notice does not mention a separate permit for ordinary used cars. Vehicles are declared to customs with form H-03, the invoice and the export certificate. Your clearing agent confirms the current paperwork before you bid.
Source: Government of SurinameWhy does Suriname shipping go by container?
We quote Suriname as a container route, with the price set per shipment rather than per car. Putting two or three cars in one container spreads the cost. We send a quote for your exact model and number of cars.
RoRo or container shippingWhat is the difference between FOB, C&F and CIF?
FOB covers the car loaded in Japan. C&F adds container freight to Paramaribo, and CIF adds insurance. Surinamese taxes, clearing agent fees and port charges are not included and are paid locally.
FOB, C&F and CIF explainedHow do Japanese auctions work for a Suriname buyer?
You tell us the model, years and budget. We search auctions, send translated auction sheets, and bid for you up to your maximum. We reject cars that would fail Suriname’s age rule before they reach your shortlist.
How Japanese car auctions workHow do T/T payments and security deposits work?
Pay by international bank transfer (T/T) to the account on your KTJAPAN invoice and send the bank reference. We confirm once funds are verified. Auction bidding needs a refundable security deposit first.
Payment methodsCan Suriname dealers buy several cars at once?
Yes. Send your models, years and volume. Sharing a container across several cars lowers the freight per car, and we quote each car separately so you can compare margins.
