Auction Security Deposits and Buying Limits

A refundable security deposit sets how much you can bid at the Japanese auctions through KTJAPAN. USD 1,000 covers cars up to USD 5,000, and the balance after a win is due within 48 hours.

Key facts

  • Your buying limit is five times your deposit.
  • All open bids and unpaid wins count against the same limit.
  • The balance after a win is due within 48 hours.
  • A deposit you do not use stays on your account or can be refunded.

Why Japanese auctions need a deposit

Japanese auctions are trade-only. KTJAPAN bids as the registered member and pays the auction house within a few days of every win. The deposit shows you are a committed buyer and covers us if a won car is not paid for.

Deposit tiers

  • USD 1,000 deposit: cars up to USD 5,000
  • USD 2,000 deposit: cars up to USD 10,000
  • USD 3,000 deposit: cars up to USD 15,000
  • USD 5,000 deposit: cars up to USD 25,000

The buying limit is the total of everything you have open at one time: bids waiting for the auction, plus cars you have won and not yet paid for. With a USD 2,000 deposit you could have two USD 5,000 bids open together, but not three.

After you win

  1. You receive an auction proforma invoice with a KTA number (for example KTA-2026-0012).
  2. Pay the balance by bank transfer to Khan Trading Co., Ltd. within 48 hours.
  3. Upload the bank slip in your account. We confirm the payment when it reaches our bank, not when the slip is uploaded.
  4. We arrange export documents and shipping.

If you do not win

Your deposit stays on your account for the next auction. You can also ask for a refund; bank charges are deducted.

If a won car is not paid

The auction terms allow KTJAPAN to keep the deposit and resell the car to recover the auction costs. Read the auction terms before you bid.

Your next steps

  1. Open a free KTJAPAN account.
  2. Choose a deposit tier and pay the deposit invoice.
  3. Send lot numbers and your maximum bid for each car.
  4. Pay the balance within 48 hours of any win.

Frequently asked questions

Can I bid on two cars at once?

Yes, as long as the total of your open bids stays inside your buying limit.

Is the deposit part of the car price?

When you win, the deposit can be applied to that car’s invoice, or kept on your account for future bidding.

Does an uploaded bank slip count as payment?

No. A slip shows a transfer was sent. Payment is confirmed when the money reaches our bank in Japan.
