How to buy from KTJAPANWhat is the age limit for importing a car into Jamaica?
Cars, station wagons and SUVs can be up to 6 years old at importation. Vans, pickups, trucks and buses have separate limits, from 6 to 30 years, depending on how the vehicle is classified.
Source: Jamaica Trade Board: vehicle age limitsCan I import a Toyota Probox or Toyota Hiace into Jamaica?
Yes, if the vehicle is within the age limit for its classification. A Probox can be classed as a station wagon (6 years) or a panel van (10 years), so we confirm the class on the export certificate before you bid. A Hiace panel van, window van or 9 to 14 seat bus has a 10-year limit, and a 15 to 20 seat bus has 12 years.
Source: Jamaica Trade Board: vehicle age limitsDo I need a Jamaica Trade Board import permit?
Yes. Each vehicle needs an import permit from the Jamaica Trade Board, applied for online through JSWIFT with the supplier invoice, export certificate and inspection certificate. The permit must be obtained before the vehicle arrives in Jamaica.
Source: Jamaica Trade Board: import permit proceduresIs pre-shipment inspection required for Japanese cars?
Yes, for used vehicles shipped from Japan. Autoterminal Japan (ATJ) inspects the car before loading, and the certificate is needed for the import permit. Since 1 June 2026, a used vehicle that arrives without it goes through a verification process with a USD 500 fee.
Source: Jamaica Trade Board: pre-shipment inspectionHow much does it cost to ship a car from Japan to Kingston?
It depends on the size of the vehicle, the shipping method and the sailing. Cars in our stock show an indicative C&F price to Kingston, and for auction cars we include freight in your written quotation. Import duties, taxes, port and broker charges in Jamaica are paid locally.
Shipping from JapanWhat is the difference between FOB, C&F and CIF?
FOB is the price of the car loaded on the ship in Japan. C&F (also called CFR) adds ocean freight to your port, such as Kingston. CIF adds marine insurance on top of C&F. None of them include import duties or charges in Jamaica.
FOB, C&F and CIF explainedHow can I buy a vehicle through Japanese auctions?
Tell us the model, year range and budget. We search the auctions we buy through, send you suitable cars with a translated auction sheet and a cost estimate, and bid only up to the maximum you approve. A security deposit is needed before we bid.
How Japanese car auctions workHow do I pay KTJAPAN, and is an auction deposit required?
You pay by international bank transfer (T/T) to the beneficiary shown on your KTJAPAN invoice, then send us the payment reference. We confirm payment once the funds are received and verified. For auction purchases, a security deposit is required before bidding, under our auction terms.
Auction deposit and payment termsCan Jamaican car dealers source multiple vehicles through KTJAPAN?
Yes. Send us your models, years, budget and how many vehicles you need, and we source them from the auctions against your brief. Under the Trade Board rules, certified motor vehicle dealers may import any category and quantity for resale, while individuals and other companies have quotas.
