Import Essentials for Guyana
Five things to know before you choose a car. Each links to the official Guyanese source.
Vehicle age
The Guyana Revenue Authority lifted its restriction on vehicles over eight years old from 1 October 2020. Age still changes the duty and taxes you pay.
Import permit
We have not found a general permit for ordinary used cars. Your licensed broker confirms whether any licence applies to your vehicle type before you bid.
Inspection
GRA lists no pre-shipment inspection for used cars. We can arrange an independent inspection in Japan if you want one.
Destination port: Georgetown
We ship RoRo to Georgetown. Most sailings tranship in the Caribbean, so we confirm the vessel and ETA when you book.
Customs clearance
Duties and taxes are assessed through GRA. The waybill must show the VIN, engine number, make, year and colour, and we include them on every shipment.
Guyana removed its eight-year age restriction on 1 October 2020, but age still affects duty and taxes.

Buying a Japanese Car for Guyana: FAQs
How do I buy a Japanese used car for Guyana?
Choose a car from our stock or ask us to find one at auction. We send a written quotation, then prepare the export certificate, invoice and bill of lading for your licensed customs broker. The car ships RoRo to Georgetown and you pay duties and taxes in Guyana.
How to buy from KTJAPANDoes Guyana have a vehicle age limit?
The Guyana Revenue Authority announced that from 1 October 2020 vehicles older than eight years may enter, following the 2020 National Budget. Age still affects duty and taxes, and budgets change the rules, so we confirm the current position with your broker before you bid.

Enquiries often cover the Toyota Probox, Aqua, Corolla Fielder and Axio for everyday use, the Hiace for passengers or goods, and the RAV4 for those wanting an SUV. These are enquiry topics, not sales rankings. Send us your budget and we shortlist what is available.
Toyota Probox guideDoes the car need an inspection before shipping?
GRA lists no pre-shipment inspection for used cars. We can book an independent inspection in Japan if you want a second opinion on condition. After arrival the vehicle is registered at the Licence Revenue Office.
Source: Guyana Revenue AuthorityDo I need an import permit or licence?
We have not found a general import permit for ordinary used cars on the GRA site. Rules can differ for vans, trucks and other commercial vehicles, so your licensed broker confirms what applies to your vehicle before you bid.
Source: Guyana Revenue AuthorityHow is a car shipped to Georgetown?
We book RoRo space to Georgetown. Most sailings tranship in the Caribbean, so we confirm the vessel, transhipment port and ETA when the booking is made. Ask for a shipping quote for the exact model.
Shipping from JapanWhat do FOB, C&F and CIF mean on a Guyana quotation?
FOB is the car loaded in Japan. C&F adds ocean freight to Georgetown, and CIF adds marine insurance. None includes Guyanese duty, taxes, broker fees or the Licence Revenue Office registration, which are paid locally.
FOB, C&F and CIF explainedCan I buy at Japanese auctions through KTJAPAN?
Yes. Tell us the model, year range and budget. We search the auctions, send translated auction sheets with a cost estimate, and bid only on cars you approve, up to the maximum you set.
How Japanese car auctions workHow do I pay, and is a security deposit needed?
You pay KTJAPAN by international bank transfer (T/T) against the official invoice, and we confirm payment once the funds are verified. Auction bidding needs a refundable security deposit first. Bank details appear only on your invoice.
Auction deposit and payment termsCan dealers in Guyana source several vehicles?
Yes. Send your models, years, budget and monthly volume and we source against that brief. Shipments of several cars can share a sailing, and every car is quoted separately so you can see the cost of each.
