The core documents
- Export certificate (輸出抹消仮登録証明書). Issued when the car is de-registered in Japan for export. It shows the chassis number, first registration date, model code and dimensions. Your clearing agent uses it for customs and registration.
- Commercial invoice. Issued by Khan Trading Co., Ltd., with the price basis (FOB, C&F or CIF) and the destination port.
- Bill of lading (B/L). Issued by the shipping line when the car is loaded. It shows the vessel, ports and consignee.
- Marine insurance certificate. Only when you buy on CIF terms.
Documents some countries add
- Pre-shipment or roadworthiness inspection certificate (for example Kenya, Jamaica, Tanzania).
- English translation of the export certificate.
- Certificate of cancellation of registration showing engine and chassis numbers (Trinidad & Tobago).
When you receive them
Scans appear in your KTJAPAN account once the vessel sails. Originals are couriered, or the B/L is surrendered, after full payment. The courier tracking number is shown in your account.
Your next steps
- Give us the correct consignee and notify party before loading.
- Check the scans when the vessel sails.
- Pay the balance so we can release the originals.
- Send the originals to your clearing agent.
Frequently asked questions
